Books for toddlers about death:The Dead Bird by Margaret Wise Brown (author of Goodnight Moon, Runaway Bunny and other classics) is out of print, but is available used. It is a very good introduction to death in the story of several children who find a dead bird. Their sadness is great at first, and they decide to bury the bird, decorate the grave, and say some final goodbyes. Tears are shed, but with time, their happiness returns and at the end, the dead bird is forgotten.
