I lost two babies in shattering miscarriages, because I was allergic to gluten

When Janet and Andrew Hewitt started trying for a family, they thought it would happen easily - they were both fit and apparently healthy. So when, after 18 months, Janet still hadn't managed to conceive, they began to wonder if something was wrong and underwent fertility tests.

'But everything came back normal, so we were sent away and told to keep trying,' recalls Janet.

Tomtato Diet May Help Prevent Miscarriages

Miscarriages suffered by millions of women may be the result of carrying genes for a common enzyme deficiency, scientists at the University of Toronto have found. If a woman does not produce enough of the enzyme G6PD it will not do a good job of mopping up free radicals - harmful molecules, which -- many think -- contribute to miscarriages. The discovery raises the hope that women may avoid miscarrying by taking anti-oxidants, contained in foods like tomatoes, oranges and tea, to mop up the harmful chemicals. Research in St James University Hospital in Leeds, UK, supports this theory.
